Feel your age

Monkey business

I recently met up with some folks and friends I haven’t seen or heard from in fifteen years or more. To me, they all looked like I remembered them and even if it took a few seconds, most seemed to recognize me.

Among many other topics, we discussed the connection between age, thought and action – more or less agreeing on how our ideals and lives, for good or bad, haven’t really changed much since turning 25. We’ve obviously accumulated experiences since then – and transcribed at least a few to what I dare call wisdom.

But I wonder if its solely social circumstances that dictate how one should feel, act or dress at different stages in life. Or, are most people genetically (yet subconsciously) programmed to change over time in a behaviour sense?

Will I, for example, eventually, at 55 (11 years from now) find that wearing jeans, a t-shirt and sneakers is a sign of regression, immaturity and social insecurity? Even if my apparel of choice bares a trendy signature? No crystal ball here. Just have to wait and see.
