Lemonade?

Today a couple of short films, clips really, showed up in my inbox. One of them shows a combination lemonade and book stand on the corner of Alfred and Willoughby from sometime in 1971. Its a few seconds and still long enough to bring tears to my eyes and take me on a bumpy ride down memory lane. I have the white sweater on, Tyko, my dear little brother, has a blue shirt and Matt Brower, Mieke’s brother, is wearing red. Our Korean buddy from the opposite corner of our busy business, is also seen in this clip. His name is Roy Choy.

The clips arrrived after intense email correspondance with Mieke, an old friend from our home in West Hollywood. She and her kind husband have been so kind and scanned in both movies and photos from the early seventies and a part of my life that – for a wide variety of reasons – was never documented.

Its been about 30 years since I lived in the house on Alfred Street and I often reminisce about that time in my life. This was way back when playing with your friends until dusk – or at least until the street lights came on – wasn’t something parents had to be particularly worried about.
