Ett litet kollage

Kom precis in från en timme simning i poolen. Solen började så smått titta fram bakom regntunga moln. Havet nedanför bassängen låg alldeles spegelblankt. Det var ett ljuvligt träningspass och en bra start för vår sista dag här på Koh Samui. I alla fall för den här gången.

Vi har haft ett par supersköna dagar där vi ätit och sovit gott och känt oss nöjda med hela vistelsen på Lamai Wanta.

Det är något speciellt med hotellet. Jag gillar stället men kan inte riktigt sätta fingret på varför. Hotellet är enkel och det är minst tre stjärnor kvar till designhotellet som The Library några mil härifrån.

Jag tror att min positiva känsla för hotellet beror i alla fall delvis på att man har hittat en bra balans. Blandningen västerländsk funktion och asiatisk estetik är perfekt. Sedan är det naturligtvis inte fel att de har ett bra kök.

Igår slog vi till med en trerätters middag där lamm, barracuda och oxfilé ingick. En okomplicerad beställning som var både vällagad och vackert presenterad. Och utsikten utöver havet vad det heller inget fel på. Notan gick på ca SEK 400.

Om några timmar flyger vi till Phuket. En ö som vi också bodde på en tid. Skall bli spännande. Där kommer vi att bo i ett litet boutiquehotell på västkusten. Recension följer snart.

Sunset Samui

Yesterday, while Elle played with her friend Ploi, Charlotte and I took a drive around the island. It was our last full day here and nice to visit a few of our old favorite sites again.

The weather on Koh Samui has clearly been more than decent. We all have a little sunburn and I’ve shot some useful photos. More sun here than on the west coast of Thailand which we are leaving for this afternoon. Can’t wait to see Saran and Saam’s little baby girl Asia. And her parents of course. I am also looking forward to diving again. Weather permitting of course.

I have a dualistic opinion about Samui. There’s no denying it, the island is one of the most beautiful tropical destinations anywhere. But Samui’s also far too saturated with tourism for my liking. At least if you go to the two main beaches Lamai and Chaweng.

The main island road (ring road) and major streets (in Lamai and Chaweng) are so unbelievably packed with trucks, cars and motorcycles, that lengthy traffic jams have become a commonality! That’s crazy.

We have about a week or so left of our trip. First a couple of days on Phuket where we’ll tay at a fairly new boutique hotel on Surin Beach. Then it’s back to Bangkok for a long weekend before returning to Sweden.

Among other excursions, I’m going out to the famous Chatuchak (weekend market) to look at furniture for our new home in Malmö. All the big delivery companies (DHL, UPS, FedEx) have offices at the market so if I find something, it’ll be easy to ship home. And because the move is so late in the year (November), we can ship anything we end up buying via boat.

Today, just hours before we board the plane for the west coast of Thailand, we’ll be hanging around the pool and beach. Enjoying what we expect to be the last few sunny hours of this trip. With any luck, the weather in Europe will improve and we will be able to enjoy a nice August at home. That would make returning a whole lot easier…
