Första gången jag bjöds på en semla äcklades jag av innehållet. Brödet var torrt, grädden söt och mandeln kladdig. No thank ya ma’m.

Idag, sådär tjugofem år senare, har jag ätit en och annan semla och njuter av bakelsen med hyfsat god aptit. Förutsatt att den är pinfärsk och att jag slipper äta den i mjölk. Det sistnämnda verkar mest sörligt.

Igår var vi hemma hos gamla vänner för att i efterhand fira både inflyttning och 40-årsdag. Till middag bjöd de på hemlagad pizza och som efterätt en fantastiskt god American Cheesecake.

Skulle jag tvingas välja, skulle nog semlan hamna en bra bit efter en så vällagad amerikansk kaloribomb som den Maria bjöd på igår. Å andra sidan äter ju inte folk fastlagsbullen som dessert utan oftast till fikat. Så jämnförelsen är kanske inte helt rättvis.

Surprisingly to most experts, it seems as if a lot of Americans are going to cast their votes less traditionally in the 2008 presidential election. This of course makes even qualified guestimations extremely difficult.

According to the New York Times, plenty of African-Americans and Latino-Americans are going to give Hillary their support and a great deal of conservative Anglo-Americans will be placing their very first democratic votes on either Obama or Mrs Clinton. Interesting, to say the least.

Both Hillary and Obama could of course take office in the White House as president and vice president. Though I don’t think Obama would settle for anything less than Commander in Chief, where as Hillary probably would.

Like many Americans, I’m also looking forward to a change in the White House. A change in attitude of how we not only how we treat one another, but also our planet.
