I’m really fascinated by idiosyncrasies in the tourism industry. I’ve seen and experienced a few over the years and one day I’ll put them in a book. Here’s two:

Bed stealers
There’s a certain type of hotel guest that insists on getting up at the break of dawn, usually before the breakfast buffet opens, just to get dibs on “their” sun bed. Today, some hotels even post signs prohibiting this kind of silly behaviour.

Food stealers
When I worked up in northern Sweden (Lappland/Rikgränsen), we had plenty of single night guests that filled their handbags and packsacks with food from the breakfast buffet.

Last night, about an hour before dinner, I visited the hotel’s spa for a 90 minute signature massage. Unsurprisingly, it was nothing less than amazing. In fact, no matter how many superlatives I can think of, they still won’t do an adequate job of describing the euphoria I felt throughout the treatment. Or, how unbelievably relaxed my whole being was afterwards. I was literally fluid.

The soft music, the sound of water somewhere in the distance and the scent of herbal steam helped put my tensions at ease. And as my masseuse’s skilfully guided hands worked their way over my oiled back, legs, arms and hands, I was completely absorbed in the experience. Again, amazing.

Jag började med pip/getskägg för att kompensera när mitt huvudhår började försvinna – någon gång i början på 1990-talet. Så enkelt är det. Minns inte om det var ett aktivt beslut eller om jag helt plötsligt bara tyckte att jag skulle ha skägg.

Rakade kön känns konstigt. Redan i andra avsnittet av den brutalt ärliga teveserien Californication deklarerar Hank Moody att han föredrar tjejer som inte ser ut som om de inte är könsmogna. Jag håller med. Hellre urskog än ett kalhygge!
