So long Miami
Written by joakim on 2008, 06, 30 – 06:27:41
Mycket folk året runt på Miami Beach.

En sån här kan jag tänka mig.

Färgglada stjärtar.

Hotellets pooltak med utsikt.

Tennis anyone?

Big ship, lots of surfers and swimmers.

Strax innan “hang ten” på en stor surfingbräda i en liten våg.

Girls from Brazi.

Classic Ocean Drive.

Den berömda Tatooeringsbutiken känd från bl a teve, Miami Ink.

Doktor Glans
Written by joakim on 2008, 06, 30 – 02:41:27

The Great American Alley
Written by joakim on 2008, 06, 30 – 02:30:14
There’s something about alleys that intrigues me. I suppose its the fact that they often provide insight to a less-than-glamorous perspective of life.
The alley above is right behind our hotel and only a few yards from Ocean Drive where everybody is all dressed up for another hot Miami night. If I could upload a scent to illustrate this photo, it would be that of intense urine and rotting food. Far from the perfume, smoke and the sweet smell of success in South Beach.

Cool Dog on Ocean
Written by joakim on 2008, 06, 30 – 02:08:53Not sure if I like the idea of pimping out a dog like this. But it sure looked pretty cool.

Back in South Beach Miami and its sunny!
Written by joakim on 2008, 06, 29 – 02:31:21I have a few more things that I want to shoot before we leave for New York and to my big surprise, the weather was much better upon our return to Miami. And finding things to point at is not a huge problem on Ocean Drive.
Its a little like Venice Beach, actually. Not quite as crazy or dangerous. But just a block away, on Washington Boulevard, things start getting really weird. Gonna head out there tonight and get the last light and hopefully a few original whackos. I love American whackos!

Key West hem
Written by joakim on 2008, 06, 29 – 02:28:58Den största behållningen med Key West är alla skoaffärer och husen i gamla stans.

The (Rich) American Way
Written by joakim on 2008, 06, 27 – 16:08:41
It struck me this morning how affluent Americans seem to know how to enjoy the good life. They live life in a big way and cut no corners to get what they think reflects who they are and what they deserve. Most Swedes don’t. Even those with considerable wealth focus more on how to save money than on spending it on the dolce vita. Which is probably why they’re rich and why I never will be.
Still, I think my life is fuller than my bank account is empty. Work hard, play hard – I always say. The trick is knowing how to enjoy the fruits of hard work. And above all, how to rid oneself of those Lutheran chains that keep you from enjoying more of life.
Americans in general live way beyond their credit limit and the current economy is going to come crashing down on millions. And what’s going to hurt them the most, is probably the fact that they won’t be able to afford their over-the-top lifestyle anymore.

På väg till Key West
Written by joakim on 2008, 06, 27 – 15:32:55

Written by joakim on 2008, 06, 27 – 05:04:42

Nobu rules!
Written by joakim on 2008, 06, 27 – 04:55:42
What a fantastic day we had yesterday. Started off with breakfast at an old diner on Biscayne Blvd. Then we checked out the Motel Mile with dozens of old, run down motels – most with gorgeous sings. After which we ran into the El Portal district with lush rainforest and beautiful homes hidden in thick vegetation. We even found Al Capone’s old Tudor pad.
After an intense morning, we took a two hour power walk along the waters of South Beach. Coming from California, After a swim in the pool and a walk up and down Collins, we got dressed for dinner at De Niro’s place.
Yes, Nobu Miami kicks ass. The dining experience is definitely not as ambient as on 57th Street in New York, but the service and above all, the food rocks just the same. The place was jam packed and we we’re lucky to get a table.
As when Håkan and I guested Nobu on Manhatan, Charlotte and I let the waiter decide what to eat. And once again, I’m happy we did.
Nobu in Miami is located at the far back of the Shore Club Hotel on Collins Avenue. After dinner, check out their outdoor North African style lounge where you can soak in some real South Beach vibe while slouching in a couch before heading home.
